Description
East Asian film industries in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries have been shaped by a multitude of social and political changes. Films across the region engage with the anxieties experienced both as national challenges and by everyday people and the precarious possibilities for life satisfaction, or subjective well-being, individuals aspire to. The focus of the book is the early twenty-first century representation of anxiety and well-being in the cinemas of currently major producing countries, Japan, China and South Korea.
