Description
This project was commissioned by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care to inform the development of the National Electronic Medication Chart Framework. The National Electronic Medication Chart Framework aims to standardize information presented in software systems to support the safe and effective use of electronic medication charts, and electronic prescribing, claiming, and supply of medicines, including those under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
The objectives of the environmental scan were to:
1) Identify potential clinical information requirements for safe electronic medication management that could be included as individual data elements within an electronic medication chart across clinical care settings, including aged care.
2) Identify safety and quality indicators relevant to the potential clinical information requirements.
The team reviewed over 150 documents and resources to compile a list of items for consideration for inclusion in the National Electronic Medication Chart Framework.
