Description

The Open Universities Australia (OUA) Renovation project is a strategic initiative established to implement the objectives of the Faculty of Arts Strategic Plan. Aligning to Learning and Teaching objectives, a model of continuous improvement to online unit delivery is planned focussing on
• the clear articulation of learning outcomes to content and assessment, and
• the development of innovative and effective approaches to the integration of rich media content within an online teaching and learning environment.

Layman's description

The project objective is to design, develop and implement a robust and streamlined Open Universities Australia (OUA) Curriculum renovation model for use across the Faculty’s twelve departments. To achieve this a template identifying key areas and expectations, focussing on continuous improvement, will be developed and an aligning process to support the renovation of a unit. Underpinning this model will be strategies to guide staff through accessing the competencies and services needed to ensure their units both innovative and meet quality learning and teaching standards.

Key findings

Overall there was a positive impact on the student learning experience with the new content and resources as well as any quality and compliance issues addressed during the renovation process. The unit convenors and unit coordinators were engaged in the renovation process and the success of the project would not have been possible without their support. The project developed models of renovations and support as well as processes for the creation of media-rich resources, where possible this has been worked into day-to-day operations, however, there will be opportunities to explore the potential of these models in future projects within the Faculty and in the University more broadly.
