This project aims to develop a system for healing nascent cracks in concrete structures by incorporation of micro-encapsulated self-healing agents, fragile enough to break under crack induced stress but robust enough to survive the concrete mixing process. Protecting vital concrete infrastructure is becoming critically important with increasing severity of storm events due to climate change. Keeping a bridge standing or a command post operational after a major event can make the difference between minor and major loss of life. These capsules can also act as a filler to reduce the amount of cement required and thereby reduce CO2 emissions.
