Quantum computers will operate by establishing a fast and efficient communication between their elementary building blocks – qubits. Currently implementations of this communication are based on light, and therefore inherit the intrinsic limitations of photonic technologies, forming a major bottleneck in development of quantum computers. Building on my expertise in optics, acoustics, and quantum-mechanical description of nanosystems, I will design a novel communication platform based on ultrahigh frequency acoustic wave – simply put, sound. These devices will be readily available for implementation in the prototypes of quantum computers, hastening the arrival of practical quantum technologies.
