Project Details

Description

I have recently been appointed by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) to co-chair the Mercury Control from Coal Combustion Partnership. The partnerships are one of the main mechanisms for the delivery of immediate actions on mercury during the negotiation of the global mercury convention. The partnership has the prospect of attracting substantial funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) an initiative of the World Bank to develop and demonstrate mercury control in developing countries and there is a potential for some or all of that funding to flow to MQ to facilitate these projects. A project based on coal with South Africa and Vietnam was considered by the GEF who have requested it to be expanded to include all industrial sources and to be considered in the 7th round of GEF funding (GEF7)
