Shifting attitudes to immigration: from boat people to queue-jumpers

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

This project aims to fill a gap in our understanding about the changing attitudes towards immigrants during the period 1970-2020 by investigating the use of a set of immigration-related lexical items in the Federal Hansard archive for the Houses of Representatives and the Senate. The results will be significant in contributing to the academic and more general public debate about treatment of immigrants by placing current attitudes in a wider historical context.
