Sustainable Investment Agreements: The Case of India

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

States negotiate international investment agreements to attract foreign investment and achieve economic growth. However, such investments become unsustainable due to contributing to the rise of inequality, human rights abuses and environmental pollution. This project seeks to conduct a “sustainability assessment” of all investment agreements (i.e., bilateral investment treaties and investment chapters in free trade agreements) negotiated by India and develop “model clauses” which should inform negotiation of such agreements in future.
