Thinking through editing: distributed cognitive processes in historical and contemporary creative collaborations

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Film editing as a process of shaping the structure and flow of communicative cultural experiences is a relatively new phenomenon in history, and expertise in this process may require specialised cognitive mechanisms. This project aims to synthesise history, cognitive philosophy, and creative practice to develop cross disciplinary theories of editing as expert work of distributed cognitive systems. This innovative approach to researching editing will develop a significant explanatory framework for aspects of creativity, collaboration and cognition. Outcomes will be a cross-disciplinary theoretical framework for analysis of contemporary and historical editing collaborations/practices and a developed team and methodology for future projects.
