Yellow fibre laser emission using silicate glass

Description

There is strong demand for yellow lasers in both existing and emerging medical applications. However, making high power laser light in the yellow region of the spectrum has been traditionally difficult, resulting in inefficient and expensive systems. We have a solution—dope dysprosium ions into a silicate glass fibre and excite the fibre using low cost widely available laser diodes in the blue region. Efficiencies >30% are expected and the use of silicate fibre will make the system robust, highly power scalable, and fully capable of integration to industry standard fibre optical componentry. Our idea has the potential to replace most yellow laser systems in the market.
