    Abstract

    子贡曰： “夫子之言性与天道，不可得而闻也."¹ 无待子贡说明, 《论语》的读者也会同意，论语没有对“性”作系统性的论述. 另一方 面，人性之论，屡见于《孟子》《荀子》及新近出土的文献，可见它在战 国的时候颇受注意. 人性这个概念的发展，不会一跳即就臻于成熟，其过 程是有迹可寻的，探其本源，可追溯到《论语》中的一些雏形的概念.²
    本文从璞玉的比喻着眼，论述人性优劣并存的本质而需要切磋琢磨以去瑕 见瑜。通过研究孔子的语录，特别是探索《论语》中有关克已修身的论 述，本文旨在揭示其潜文本＠的内涵意义，从而论证人性本质与文化修养 能相辅相成地完成人类的道德发展.
