    Abstract

    子贡曰: “夫子之言性与天道,不可得而闻也."¹ 无待子贡说明, 《论语》的读者也会同意,论语没有对“性”作系统性的论述. 另一方 面,人性之论,屡见于《孟子》《荀子》及新近出土的文献,可见它在战 国的时候颇受注意. 人性这个概念的发展,不会一跳即就臻于成熟,其过 程是有迹可寻的,探其本源,可追溯到《论语》中的一些雏形的概念.²
    本文从璞玉的比喻着眼,论述人性优劣并存的本质而需要切磋琢磨以去瑕 见瑜。通过研究孔子的语录,特别是探索《论语》中有关克已修身的论 述,本文旨在揭示其潜文本@的内涵意义,从而论证人性本质与文化修养 能相辅相成地完成人类的道德发展.
