272. Bribirska glavica - crkva sv. Joakima i Ane

The report presents the results of the first season of archaeological excavations at Bribirska glavica undertaken as part of the international archaeological project Varvaria/Berberium/Bribir launched in 2014. The excavations concentrated in the contemporary cemetery of Bribirska glavica, in the immediate vicinity of the Church of St Joachim and Anna. Three trenches were opened in the first sector: in the area between the north-west wall of the cemetery church and the memoria (T1, T2 and T3), and two trenches in the second sector, along the south-west wall of the church (T5, T6). The excavations resulted in the establishment of at least three phases of stone built structures, namely, the mausoleum with the sarcophagi belong to the first phase while the poly-conic building attached to the mausoleum belongs to the second phase. The present day Church of St Joachim and Anne belongs to the phase after the deconstruction of the poly-conic building and its construction can be subdivided as well but so far there is not sufficient archaeological evidence for its accurate phasing. During the excavations several ossuaries were found and explored and the pottery that was discovered analysed and systematized. In addition, two photogrammetric models of Bribirska glavica were made as well as the digital reconstructions of the objects found on Bribirska glavica. All the excavation records were stored in the web-based ARK database.
