    Abstract

A three-dimensional (3-D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) hearth model has been established for understanding the inner conditions of a blast furnace hearth. The package of 3-D CFD hearth model includes the steady model and the transient model. The first portion of this paper focuses on the application of the steady model on predicting the detailed hearth erosion, analysis of the effect of the thermal connection on the hearth cooling. And the later portion discusses the level of liquid phase and its top surface profiles inside the hearth predicted by the transient model.
