368. Bribirska glavica - Crkva Sv Joakima i Ane

This report brings the results of the fourth season of archaeological excavations at Bribirska Glavica as part of the international archaeological project Varvaria/Berberium/Bribir, which started in 2014. The excavation was performed on the area of the modern cemetery of Bribirska Glavica around the church of Saints Joachim and Anna and the area east of the contemporary cemetery wall. In trenches 7, 18, and 21, situated west of the modern church, the excavations revealed the part of the cemetery dated to the 13th/14th centuries, as well as the late antique tomb, which was reused in the 13th/14th centuries. The last apse on the southern side of the rotunda church was excavated to the bedrock (trench 15). It didn’t show any peculiarities compared to the other already excavated apses of the rotunda church dated to the 6th century. Based on the remains of preserved buildings in trench 17, east of the contemporary cemetery wall, it is assumed that in this part of Glavica, there was a large ancient and late antique building to which the sacral-cemetery complex in the cemetery belongs. This procedure aims to open the possibility for these objects to be physically connected since they represent the same complex.
