Abstract
This report brings the results of the sixth season of archaeological excavations at Bribirska glavica as part of the international archaeological project Varvaria/Breberium/Bribir, which started in 2014. The excavations took place in the area of the modern cemetery of Bribirska glavica around the Church of Saints Joachim and Anne and the area east of the cemetery wall.
This year’s excavations continued in trenches 23 and 25, and a new trench (26) was opened northwest of the cemetery wall. Trench 23 revealed three graves and an ossuary, while Trench 25 did not show any new features compared to the excavations of 2018 when the excavations of this trench commenced. Trench 26 revealed several phases of construction. The most important layer was one room with preserved fresco paintings on two joint walls that can be dated to around the 1st century BC–1st century AD. One wall of this room was overrun by a wall which belongs to a more recent architectural adaptation of the complex NW of the cemetery wall.
