Abstract

A 0.1 Watt GaAs pre-amplifier has been developed with broadband match, gain, and power compression characteristics spanning 28 to 47 GHz. Flat gain was achieved by choosing a balanced topology and selectively mismatching the input and inter-stage networks at the low end of the band. The gain is 15.7 dB with 1.4 dB ripple. Input and output matches are -17 dB and -22 dB respectively. The Psat is +22.0 dBm, P1 +19.4 dBm and the DC current is 160 mA from a 4 V supply. The amplifer is suitable for cascading to multiple-stages to achieve a low ripple, high gain frequency response for broadband electronic warfare applications.
