    Abstract

Changes in the meridional temperature gradient in each hemisphere are reconstructed from zonally-averaged palaeotemperature data. The circulation trends predicted by the model are in good agreement with palaeohydrological evidence from Africa, western Eurasia and Australasia for the periods 18 000, 9000 and 6000 BP. -from Authors
