Abstract

In this paper, a dual-band, compact, lightweight and low-cost surface-mount monopole antenna is proposed. This antenna can generate two separate resonant modes and operate in two frequency bands. The antenna has a monopole configuration, obtained by folding a metallic strip onto a low profile rectangular foam base, and is mounted on a substrate. It is fed by a 50Q microstrip line. A prototype of the proposed antenna has been fabricated and tested. The lower band covers the GSM900 band, and the upper band covers both DCS1800 and PCS1900 bands.
