A dual broadband Substrate Integrated Waveguide Dielectric Resonator Antenna with T-Slot for 5G mmWave applications

Abstract

A broadband Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) fed with higher order mode using a T-slot is proposed. The dielectric resonator has a dielectric constant of 10 with loss tangent of 0.002 and is etched on Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 substrate having a thickness of 0.254mm and relative permittivity of 2.2 with loss tangent of 0.0009. This antenna exhibits a dual band behavior with impedance bandwidth of 5.07GHz (25.35-30.42 GHz) and 1.11GHz (34.15-35.26 GHz) and broadside stable radiation pattern. The design provides peak gain of 8.5dB at 26.3GHz, 7.8dB at 27.4GHz, 6.8dB at 28.5GHz, 9.2dB at 34.8GHz and radiation efficiency of more than 98%. The effect of feeding on the bandwidth, S11, gain, radiation efficiency and radiation pattern are examined and analyzed. It is suitable for 5G mm Wave applications.
