Abstract

A reconfigurable patch antenna is proposed. The antenna design avoids any potentially interfering bias paths for switching; only an external bias-tee is required for biasing. An equivalent analytical model has been derived to describe the band shifting principle of the reconfigurable antenna. An example prototype resonating at two frequencies of 1712 MHz and 1793 MHz is demonstrated to prove the concept.
