A holmium-doped fiber amplifier at 2.1 μm

Abstract

An all-fiber holmium-doped power amplifier is demonstrated for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. A maximum amplified power of 1.65 W is achieved for an input signal power of 35 mW. The slope efficiency is estimated to be 23% for pumping at 1.12 μm. A maximum gain of 18.5 dB is achieved for an input signal of 18 mW.
