Abstract

This study considers the work of Miroslav Krleža and Ivo Andrić on the basis of taking into account two typical short stories from their expressionistic phase. In this works one can read the deconstructive procedures in relation to modernistic poetics and anticipation of the fictional procedures that will become dominant in South S lavic literatures in a period that starts few decades later. Krleža is engaged with concepts of utopist pictures and in his work he is consciously undermining the concept of rulling cultural paradigm. At the same time Andrić's decorstructing the mythical world of the (multi)national stories and the (hi)story, while at the same time taking his story realms to the very edge of the space where ideological reading is going to be considered in so called space 'in between'. This work reads the texts that provoke postcolonial and new historicism based readings of the texts on a basis of possible reflections that the actual texts have on today's readers and their (presumed) expectations from the texts of the past. The question of 'using the texts' is also considered as important, regardless of ideological discursive practice which present a text to a particular community of users. Postcolonial reading of above texts is a basis of reading anew these authors and reconsidering their importance not only in national corpuses but also in a corpus of wider cultural context.
