Abstract

Informational integration is one of the important challenges and more aggressive strategies toward radical actions, for instance, to protect the environment from unwise long-term decisions. It is essential that port decision makers see the urgency in the formulation and consideration of port decision support in the long term. The strategy of theory building from cases demonstrates its objectivity emphasising the real-world context in which the port informational integration may occur. This chapter weighs the importance of multiple port cases to support informational integration with extant literature, therefore, demonstrating that a multi-case study analysis can accommodate a rich variety of empirical analyses. This chapter presents a novel multi-case approach valuable for informational port decision making. The multiple case consolidates the new knowledge for port informational integration. The argument is that expertise on this matter is served by consistent empirical evidence in a process accounting for data, models and for the corresponding validation of multiple case studies.

The findings suggest that the practitioners should pay attention to the distinct roles and contexts in which port informational integration may take place while deciding on the strategic orientation, that is, to adopt the business process intelligence (BPI). The multi-case presented is a novel contribution to data analytics appropriate for the port study, and also responds to the necessity of introducing more intelligent decision support tools in which experimental data and results for comparison between ports are not available to meet future challenges.
