Abstract
This article concentrates attention on the characteristics, attitudes and behaviour of the nineteen full-time officials of the Victorian Branch of the AMSWU. Impressions are then drawn as to the state of democracy within the union. The author's main contention is that the officials are primarily engaged in the pursuit of improved wages and conditions and can therefore be seen to respond to the priorities of their members.
