Abstract

A single chip PHY coded orthogonal frequency domain multiplexing (COFDM) modem with integrated analog to digital converters (ADC) and digital to analog converters (DAC) was discussed. IEEE 802.11a standard was used which provided for wireless local area networks. The PHY modem was responsible for demodulating and modulating a baseband analog signal with data from medium access controller (MAC). Baseband signals transmitted in a 802.11a system consisted of packets composed of a preamble followed by OFDM symbols. Preamble was used by the receiver for synchronization. OFDM symbols were separated by guard intervals which were generated by cyclically extending and windowing the OFDM symbols.
