Abstract
This paper presents a rigorous mathematical approach to the analysis of electrostatic problems for three-dimensional objects of revolution. A cavity can be formed by rotation of an arbitrarily shaped generating curve and has coaxial apertures on both ends. Such flexibility allows to consider a wide class of previously studied conductors and stimulate design of new ones. The accurate free space capacitance calculations for finite open cylinders and truncated cones are performed and the results are compared to the known data from the literature.
