Abstract

This short paper focuses on adopting and using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a professional service firm to understand how AI can be leveraged to achieve organisational goals. A longitudinal case study is being conducted using the Affordance Actualisation Theory as the underlying theoretical framework. Preliminary findings have identified four groups of AI affordances, namely automating, standardising, organising, and augmenting. The study aims to provide theoretical contributions by articulating the emergence of affordances, actions required to actualise affordances, and organisational outcomes achieved through the actualisation processes. It also highlights the generative mechanism of specific outcomes of using AI. The practical implications of this study are significant, as it can aid professional service firms in effectively leveraging AI to achieve firmwide goals. Overall, this short paper aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice and contribute to the growing body of knowledge on AI in professional service domains.
