Advancing qualitative research in international accounting

Abstract

Although quantitative research dominates international accounting scholarship, qualitative research methods can advance understanding of core research problems in this field. This chapter summarises some key features of qualitative research and explores how these features are apposite to studying significant themes in international accounting. Finally, it illustrates these contributions, and possibilities for future research, in indicative prior papers in the field.
