Aegypta capta: obelisks in Augustan Rome

    Abstract

    There are 13 obelisks standing in Rome. Eight were transported from Egypt. The rest of the obelisks were locally produced. Most can be seen today in piazzas to which they were re-located in comparatively recent times.
