Abstract

Medical artificial intelligence constructs AI programs to diagnose and make therapy recommendations for patients. These programs are based on symbolic models of disease entities and their relationship to patient factors and clinical manifestations. The dominant role of AI in medicine (AIM) over the last 10 years was not to directly contribute to mainstream AI or medicine, but to develop coding schemes for electronic patient records for specialist journals devoted to medical informatics or the application of computers in medicine, not routinely in Medical or AI journals.
