Abstract

Artificial Intelligence technologies (AI) are rapidly transforming the nature of jobs and work. While much of the discussion around AI concerns its capabilities, this set of compiled commentaries argues that AI also has profound implications for workers’ health, safety, and well-being. The commentaries explore these implications across a range of topics, including technostress, human health, flourishing, job and occupational insecurity, algorithmic management, ethics, and training needs for future occupational safety and health professionals. Together, the commentaries suggest that AI’s potential impacts are neither inherent nor inevitable. In a world where AI’s effects are still a consequence of human decisions, the frameworks and values of occupational health psychology hold promise for understanding and shaping a future of work where worker health, safety, and well-being are paramount.
