Abstract

Based on probability and statistics, we present a novel mechanism to estimate the available bandwidth in the IEEE 802.11 architecture. Then we present a new on-demand QoS routing protocol for real-time multimedia in Mobile Ad-hoc NETworks based on IEEE 802.11. Under such a routing protocol, we can derive a route to satisfy bandwidth requirement for quality-ofservice (QoS) constraint. In our simulations the QoS routing protocol produces higher throughput, lower delay and services more sessions than its best-effort counterpart. In addition, it is more applicable to real environment of Ad-hoc network and can support more mobility than other QoS routing protocols.
