Abstract
The Hamburg Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory - short version (Hamburger Zwangsinventar - Kurzform, HZI-K) is a behavioural oriented questionnaire for measuring of obsessive-compulsive symptoms of different degrees of severity. The 72 items are divided into six subscales: A, 'checking'; B, 'washing, cleaning'; C, 'tidying'; D, 'counting, touching, speaking'; E, 'thinking of words and ideas'; F, 'thoughts of harming oneself or others'. The HZI-K was evaluated in a sample of n = 77 healthy adults (35 men, 42 women). The postulated subdivision of each subscale into two parts of different degrees of severity could be verified. In accordance with previous results, a principal components analysis of the subscales yielded two orthogonal dimensions: I. 'obsessions' (subscales D, E, and F) and II. 'compulsions' (subscales A, B, and C); subscale A is also highly correlated to the first component. A more consequent consideration of factor analytical results for the formation of the HZI-K subscales is desirable.
