Abstract

An anomalously high saturation value for the decay constant of the 'alignment' is observed for coherence-narrowed 61S0-6 3P1 198Hg fluorescent radiation scattered at right angles from the frontal region of the resonance cell. This is explained in terms of the radiation loss from the front face.
