Abstract

This research article is intended to provide a solution for high-cost wireless identification and sensing applications. The paper yields application specific wireless, design-oriented battery-free transponder. A 2-bit clipless RFID (radio frequency identification) tag has been originated to map with ISM (industrial, scientific, and medical) radio band applications. The transponder resonates at 2.45GHz and 5.88GHz frequency band while staying in compact dimensions of 28mm x 22mm. Furthermore, the chip-free tag has been embedded with sensing parameters to capture the humidity variations in the environment. Kapton HN® polyimide is owned as a humidity sensitive material. Initially the tag is designed and optimized to resonate at application specific ISM band notches using rigid FR4 substrate with copper at top. Then, the flexible output tag is earned via opting Kapton HN® material as substrate along with Aluminum and silver nanoparticle ink as electrode. Also, HP photopaper and PET are utilized to come up with green electronic based passive tag for environment friendly identification. The proposed tag holds the capacity to identify 2n number of unique objects, where 'n' is the number of slots/bits. Four unique combinations '00', '01', '10' and '11' are acquired via utilization of single element tag. Two major parameters i.e., identification/tracking and sensing are targeted for applicability in IoT (Internet of Things) and wireless sensor networks (WSN).
