    Research output: Contribution to Newspaper/Magazine/WebsiteArticle

    Abstract

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army has been given a new mission focused on 21st century joint deterrent and warfighting operations up to and beyond the second island chain and into the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It is being reorganised accordingly, with internal and border security handed over to the People’s Armed Police, the PLA Navy (including the Marines) expanded, and a new Rocket Force and a Strategic Support Force added. The reorganisation is to be completed between 2035 and the People’s Republic of China centenary in 2049.
