Abstract
This chapter is a preliminary study of some of the ways in which historians interested in the writing of narratives of Athenian political history may better nuance their interpretation of events or add new elements to their narratives by drawing more fully upon recent scholarship on Greek society and especially on Greek religion and its central polis expression - festival.
