Austral Sky

Andrew Robson (Composer)

    Research output: Non-traditional research outputComposition

    Abstract

This composition presents a sustained exploration of an odd time signature (5/4) at a slow tempo. The piece features an extension of the compositional techniques applied to other small group compositions of mine during this period. Austral Sky was first performed at the Foundry 616 on 22 March 2016 by the Andrew Robson Trio (Andrew Robson - alto saxophone, Steve Elphick - double bass, Hamish Stuart - drums). The score also includes a single-stave concert pitch part and a piano part. It is envisaged that the composition could be played by any small jazz ensemble.

Instrumentation: Alto saxophone, piano, bass, drums.
    Duration: 6 min.
