Abstract

Autopoietic theory can be applied to a multimedia news story to assist in understanding the topology of the multimedia and how the multimedia message is created from the relationships between the media. In addition, when a news story is created using autopoietic principles, it helps to create a news story that is clear and coherent, and where the intended message is communicated to the target audience. Therefore autopoietic theory can be used in two ways: as a framework to analyse an existing multimedia text and as a model when creating multimedia so that the target audience interprets the message as intended.
