Collagen materials are widely used in medicine due to their optimal manipulation characteristics, biocompatibility, controlled biodegradation, the ability to form complexes with drugs and stimulate regeneration. Domestic scientists from the Sechenov University have created, experimentally studied and introduced into medicine a variety of materials from the protein of connective tissue - collagen. At the same time, new collagen materials were introduced into clinical practice abroad. In this review of domestic and world literature, we described how scientific and applied research on collagen materials developed, and tried to present a snapshot of the current state and trends in the use of collagen for a variety of medical purposes - from hemostatic sponges to tissue-engineered structures.
