N2 - The preparation of a series of new coordination compounds of bivalent nickel with the terdentate ligand 2, 4, 8-tri(2′-pyridyl)-1, 3, 5-triazine and various anions (Cl-, Br-, I-, CNS-, or ClO− 4) is reported. Compounds having metal-ligand ratios of 1: 2, 1: 1, and 2: 1 were isolated, and in the last case the possibility of simultaneous terdentate and bidentate behaviour is discussed. In all cases the compounds formed were high-spin with magnetic moments ranging between 3.1 and 3.3 B.M. In general, octahedral coordination is proposed for these compounds. The additional possibility of five-coordination in the case of the 1: 1 complexes is discussed, but such coordination could not be confirmed by the investigations employed. The isolation of a series of coordination compounds containing a protonated form of the ligand is also reported.
