Black love matters: thick love, thin love and an ethic of love

    Abstract

    This essay reflects on the portrayal of love in Toni Morrison's Beloved, considering, particularly, under what kinds of political, economic, social and cultural conditions "thick love" and "thin love" flourish, and connecting Morrison's conception of love to bell hooks' concpetion of an "ethic of love".
