Abstract
Bodyscapes is an audio-visual work for gestural instrument, voice and percussion. After premiering at the Sydney Fringe Festival on September 26, 2014, the work was selected for inclusion in an online catalogue for the first interactive art exhibition hosted by the 2015 International Conference on Human Factors in Computing (CHI), Art.CHI. Bodyscapes is part of a larger program of research investigating embodied performance interaction in a range of contexts. Controlling computers and dedicated audio hardware with body motion has increased rapidly in live electronic music since movement sensing technologies have become more affordable. There is currently an asymmetry between technical developments in the area and knowledge about how
gestural systems are incorporated into existing performance practice. This research aims to address this gap by focusing on the areas of visual feedback, movement metaphors and interface ‘explorability’.
