Abstract

The Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games attempted to present a contemporary vision of Australia that would satisfy a range of vested national interests and communicate to a massive international audience. This article is specifically addressed to one segment of the Ceremony, the 'Arrivals' sequence, which I was involved in as a volunteer participant-observer, working for the Sydney Olympic Games Organising Committee (SOCOG).
