Abstract

What is Care My Way?
Care My Way helps people with cancer share personal information with your treatment team. You are the expert in your own needs. Your profile is a way to manage and control the information you want to share with others.

Care My Way helps you to:
1. Make it easy for you to share your story without needing to repeat yourself
2. Help people involved in looking after your health, (like an oncologist, social worker, cancer nurse, GP and others) to understand important details about you.

This will help them support you in the way you prefer. Care My Way aims to support a better care experience for people with cancer. It was designed
in July 2024 by people who have used cancer care, health practitioners, and researchers from the CanEngage Project at Macquarie University Research Institute for Safer Care.

How to use Care My Way:
Step 1: Complete the profile with the information you want to share. The Care My Way profile includes four topic boxes. Every topic box has optional prompts to
help you decide what information to share. You can choose the information you want to
include in your profile.
You can either:
1. Fill out the sections on your phone, tablet, or computer
2. Print it out and complete it on paper
3. Take a blank copy with you to complete with your cancer team

Step 2: Sharing your cancer care profile
Bring your profile to appointments with anyone supporting you in taking care of your health. Your treatment team might ask you questions about the information you have provided so that they can respond to your needs. Remember to bring it along to each appointment with different people.
You can:
1. Keep your profile in a safe place of your choosing
2. Take a photo of your profile so you have a digital record

Step 3: Update the profile if things change
You can add or update information or complete a new profile as your circumstances change over time. Remember to share updated versions with your cancer treatment team.
