Abstract
What is Care My Way?
Care My Way facilitates the sharing of personal information between people with cancer and their treatment team. It provides a platform for health practitioners, including oncologists, social workers, cancer nurses, GPs, and others, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the important life, cultural, and situational details of people experiencing cancer.
Care My Way aims to support a better care experience for people with cancer. It was designed in July 2024 by people who have used cancer care, health practitioners, and researchers from the CanEngage Project at Macquarie University Research Institute for Safer Care.
How to use Care My Way
Step 1: Complete the profile
The Care My Way profile includes four topic boxes. Every topic box has optional prompts to help decide what information the person experiencing cancer wants to share.
1. The person experiencing cancer might bring a completed copy to share with you
2. You can print and complete together during an appointment
Step 2: Sharing the profile
You can encourage the person experiencing cancer to bring their profile to other appointments. It's their information, so advise them to keep it in a secure place or take a picture on their phone for easy access.
Step 3: Update the profile if things change
As the circumstances of the person with cancer change over time, you can add or update information together or complete a new profile with them anytime.
