Abstract

The Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta (CEDP) conducts school education in 23 secondary and 57 primary schools in Western Sydney as a seamless learning journey from pre-school to post-school. A newly re-commissioned college (Years 10-12) is opening in 2020 in Mt Druitt as an Innovation Hub for CEDP schools. The College is offering learning opportunities for young people in Western Sydney in response to a rapidly changing world and workforce, requiring its citizens to be effective problem solvers and expert communicators.

The literature review focused on materials about senior secondary schooling (including vocational education), post-school pathways and transition to work, and the concept of ‘meaningful work’. This project was guided by the overarching question:

What are the critical factors for success in ensuing those approaches to curriculum, learning and teaching align with the aspirations and needs of students at school and beyond their compulsory education?
