    Abstract

Miniature external-cavity tunable lasers are combined with retro-reflected optical-heterodyne detection for rapidly swept, continuous-wave cavity ringdown spectroscopy. This yields a compact, rugged, versatile, high-performance instrument for efficient spectroscopic sensing of gases.
