Abstract

A method of characterising a cell group comprising exposing a cell group to a plurality of bands of excitation wavelengths to generate emission spectra of endogenous fluorophores of the cell group; preparing a plurality of images of the cell group from the fluorescence emissions of the endogenous fluorophores at each of the bands of excitation wavelengths, wherein the image contains a plurality of pixels and a pixel provides data of fluorophore emission intensity at a known excitation wavelength and a known emission wavelength; and performing hyperspectral autofluorescence analysis on the data from the plurality of images to produce an output of the analyses which is characteristic of the cell group. Also contemplated is performing principal component analysis and linear discriminant analysis on the data from the plurality of images to produce outputs for the cell group, and comparing the cell group output to a reference cell group output.
