Abstract
The article is devoted to studying the prepositional-nominal constructions "в" and "на" with the Prepositional Case from the viewpoint of cognitive linguistics. The author’s attention is focused on metonymies motivating the variative use of these constructions. The paper shows how transference based on synecdoche allows using different prepositions after a certain word. The author analyses metonymic transferences allowing the variative use of "в" and "на" with the words of the same semantic group.
